The world is not over, and the Ducks are ranked #6 in the preseason NCAA collegiate baseball poll so it’s probably a good time to talk baseball. The hype behind Ducks baseball is buzzing, as Oregon is expected to make a deep run in the college world series in 2013.
The Ducks are one of four PAC-12 teams to be ranked in the top ten in the collegiate baseball poll, only one spot behind #5 UCLA. The Pac-12 is going to be stacked this year with a total of 6 teams in the conference in the top 18, so the road to winning the Pac-12 won’t be easy.
Oregon is coming off it’s most successful season since the program was reinstated in 2009, going 46-19 and appearing in the super regional against Kent State. The Ducks will look to Pre-Season 1st team All-American pitcher Jimmie Sherfy to produce like he did in 2011, striking out 93 hitters in 61.1 innings and allowing a .172 batting average against hitters. Sherfy set a school record in 2012 with 19 saves.
Oregon will commence its season February 15th with a 4 game series against Hawaii and will look to uphold the standard that Ducks football and volleyball has set this year.
