Oregon storms from behind to upset Arizona

The game couldn’t have gotten off to a worse start for the Ducks.  Arizona jumped out to an 11-0 lead early in the first half.  After that, it was all Oregon.  The Ducks upset the No. 4 Wildcats 70-66 at Matthew Knight Arena.

Oregon was led by Senior E.J. Singler’s stellar play.  Singler put up 14 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists, and 3 steals.  Carlos Emory, Tony Woods, and Dominic Artis all added another 10 points.  The Ducks finished the game shooting 48.1% from the field, with an outstanding 63.6% from behind the arc.

Oregon played very well as a team, getting contributions from everyone.  This showed in their season high 17 assists.  Arsalan Kazemi’s presence on the floor and his cool head in tough situations stands out for me.  So do his team high 8 rebounds, most of them in the second half.  For the Wildcats, Mark Lyons put up 21 points with Solomon Hill adding another 16.  This win should move Oregon up into the top 25 polls.

Next up, Oregon takes on Arizona State in Matthew Knight Arena on January 13th at 6pm PST.
