The Oregon Ducks take on the USC Trojans tonight in Galen Center. This will be Oregon’s first road trip out of the state in conference play, and so as the freshman go, so go the Oregon Ducks. Dominic Artis and Damyean Dotson have been great for Oregon so far, but will that trend continue in a hostile L.A. atmosphere?
USC has a new coach leading the way, which could be a distraction for the Trojans. Then again, it could be fuel under the fire. Looking at the two teams on paper, it is clear the Ducks are far superior. USC ranks 259th in points, 188th in rebounds, 199th in assists, and 201st in field goal percentage per game. Oregon ranks 38th in points, 29th in rebounds, 93rd in assists, and 45th in field goal percentage per game. Oregon is 14-2 overall and 3-0 in conference play, as opposed to USC’s 7-10 overall and 2-2 in conference play.
The Trojans have only one player averaging in double digits with Eric Wise averaging 11.9 points per game. The only thing that could possibly go wrong for the Ducks is the atmosphere taking a toll on the non-veteran players. With Damyean Dotson leading Oregon in points per game at 11.8, this does not seem likely. Dana Altman does a great job of preparing his players with the right mind set to overcome outside distraction — just look at the Arizona game where they started by going down 11-0.
To watch the game, tune into ESPNU at 8pm PST.
