The Oregon Ducks opened conference play with a big win over rival Oregon State 79-66. The Civil War was much closer than the end score indicates. It wasn’t until the last 10 minutes that the Ducks started to pull away. Freshman Damyean Dotson turned in a huge performance with a career high 21 points (the same as his jersey number), while E.J. Singler added 15 points, followed by Dominic Artis with 11. Arsalan Kazemi and Tony Woods added 8 points each respectively.
Kazemi was huge for Oregon in the last 5 minutes, getting key rebounds and second chance points. Also key to the win was the play of Jonathan Lloyd’s great defense and ability to push the pace. The Ducks shot just 18.8% from behind the arc, but finished 49.2% from the field. Dotson also contributed 15 of his 21 points in the second half, hitting two big 3-pointers. Oregon is now 12-2 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
Next up, Oregon will get it’s biggest test of the season against No. 3 Arizona on January 10th in Mathew Knight Arena at 6pm PST.
