Altman coaching up a Duck.

Dana Altman deserves as much credit for what he has done with a basketball program that was at a low point when he came in as Chip Kelly received taking over an established  winner with the football program.  Both are fantastic coaches, but so far, Altman’s teams have been in the shadow of the outstanding football program.  Is that about to change?

The last two years before Altman’s tenure, Oregon basketball went 2-16 and 7-11 in conference play.  Altman’s team repeated the 7-11 conference record in his first season, but won more games out of conference than the previous year.  In his second year, the Ducks were 13-5 in the Pac-12.  Now in Altman’s third year, the Ducks are  on pace for a season better than any they’ve had since the ’06 season that ended in the Elite Eight.  Let’s enjoy what we have in our fantastic new coach, and hope that Mark Helfrich proves as great a hire for the football team.  Hey, Florida won both football and men’s basketball one year.  With both programs on the rise, the Ducks just might be next!
