The Oregon Ducks take on the Oregon State Beavers tonight in Matthew Knight Arena. Oregon looks to sweep the Beavers with this win and stay tied atop the conference with Arizona. The Ducks walked away from Corvallis with a 79-66 win on January 6th.
Head coach Dana Altman has finally broken his silence in regard to Dominic Artis. Artis is expected to see some time against Oregon State, but how much is anyone’s guess. Altman said he would speak with trainers, doctors, and coaches to determine just how much Artis will see the court. Expect Johnathan Loyd to receive most of the playing time at the point. Loyd is coming off his best game of the season against Stanford where he put up 15 points and 9 assists.
Despite sitting in second to last place in the conference, the Beavers rank in the top 100 in many statistical categories. Oregon State is a strong rebounding team, so Oregon will need Arsalan Kazemi to continue to dominate the intangibles of the game. On paper these teams mirror each other in many ways. The Beavers have 5 players scoring in double digits with Roberto Nelson leading the way at 17.3 points per game. They also have a player much like Kazemi in Eric Moreland, who averages 9.3 points and 10.6 rebounds per game.
Oregon will need to spread the floor and keep up the pace. With Loyd showing he can score and Artis coming back, this should open up the post game for Tony Woods and Waverly Austin to get back to work, as teams will no longer be able to sit back and leave the long shots open.
To watch the game, tune in to ESPNU at 8pm PST.
