Thorpe to play for USA Baseball Collegiate National Team

EUGENE, Ore. – Sophomore left-hander Tommy Thorpe has accepted an invitation to play for the 2013 USA Baseball Collegiate National Team this summer.

Oregon’s Friday night starter, Thorpe has a 6-4 record with a 2.39 ERA this season while helping the Ducks to a 43-13 record. He has struck out 78 batters, sixth all-time at Oregon, while allowing just 32 walks in 90.1 innings pitched. Thorpe has held opposing hitters to a .234 batting average and produced six straight quality starts since being moved to the Friday night starter’s spot before the series at California.

Since becoming the Ducks’ Friday night starter, Thorpe has a 1.29 ERA while holding opposing hitters to a .208 batting average. He hasn’t allowed more than two earned runs in any of the six starts and had his best outing of the season last Friday holding No. 4 Oregon State without a run through eight innings in a 3-0 Oregon win.

During his two seasons at UO, Thorpe has compiled an 8-4 record with a 2.30 ERA. As the team’s set-up man during his freshman season, the Vancouver, Wash., native was 2-0 with a save and a 2.11 ERA. He made 35 appearances, which ranks as the third most in a single season at Oregon.
