Northwest Christian Basketball Benefiting From Ducks

Although I am not too familiar with NAIA Division III Basketball, I am fairly confident in saying that the Northwest Christian Beacons are going to dominate the Cascade Collegiate Conference next year.  They have none other than the mighty Oregon Ducks to thank for it.  Not only did they acquire former Ducks basketball legend and first round NBA draft pick Luke Jackson as their head coach, Duck big man Austin Kuemper and guard Coleton Baker decided to transfer to NCU, they also picked up two Chinese players, one of which is a towering 7’2′ inches tall.

Kuemper, who averaged over 16 points and 9 rebounds his senior season for Westview High School, didn’t get much court time for the Ducks but will likely take advantage of the increased playing time and  inferior competition.

Coleton Baker received even less playing time for the Ducks than Kuemper, but had already garnered tremendous success prior to signing with Oregon.  Baker averaged over 24 points for Umpqua Community College after earning first team all-state honors his senior season in high school for Oakland High School in Oakland, Oregon.

Beacons basketball might be worth checking out next year…. on Ducks’ off nights, of course.
