The men’s basketball team has gotten a head start and snagged their first commit for the 2014 class. Commit Casey Benson is a 6’3 point guard from Tempe, Arizona. He is currently rated as a three star recruit by most services but still has his senior year of high school to improve. Gatorade has selected him as the player of the year in Arizona for boys basketball last season.
The left-hander chose the U of O over other good collegiate programs such as Gonzaga, New Mexico and Colorado. He also made the smart choice to turn down rival college Oregon State, where he would have had to endure many Civil War game losses.
Benson will prove to be a key acquisition for the Ducks due to the fact that point guard Jonathan Lloyd will be playing his last season this year. That would leave Dominc Artis as the only point guard on the roster outside of the new recruit. Artis has already endured an injury that has forced him to miss significant time and Benson will provide a safety net for him as well as a potential future starter down the road.
