Pac-12 Examiner: Week 1 Notes & Stats

The Duck shows off the guns after another high scoring game.

The Pac-12 conference got off to a strong start in Week 1, going a combined 7-3 overall. Thanks to a thrilling comeback win for Utah, a less-than-thrilling USC victory and strong performances from Arizona and Oregon, the conference began undefeated at 4-0.

But it wouldn’t last long as Oregon State, embarrassingly, messed up all of that by hemorrhaging 49 points and 650+ yards in a loss to FCS-level Eastern Washington . . . at home, no less. So, maybe the whole “slip-&-slide-instead-of-football-practice” thing won’t catch on in Corvallis after all.

The two other losses suffered were more respectable, Washington State put up a good fight on the road in a loss to Auburn, in a matchup of last year’s SEC/Pac-12 dregs, and Cal‘s freshman QB, Jared Goff, threw for 445 yards against No. 22 Northwestern in a losing effort.

Stanford and Arizona State DNP, but both will look to notch another two victories for the conference this week against San Jose State and Sacramento State, respectively.
