RECRUITING NEWS – OREGON LANDS FOUR STAR ATHLETE BUDDA BAKER – Baker Leaves His Home State of Washington for Oregon

The prized recruit from Bellevue High School in Bellevue Washington has committed to the University of Oregon, spurning an offer from his hometown Huskies, as well as USC, UCLA, Notre Dame and many others.

Baker, a four-star safety recruit, announced his decision Friday afternoon on Twitter.

Baker is the top prospect in the Pacific Northwest and the No. 4 safety nationally, according to Scout.com.

The All-American was named the Washington state Player of the Year by The Seattle Times, The News Tribune and the Associated Press.

The 5-foot-8, 177-pound Baker also plays running back and returns kicks.   He has expressed interest in playing on both sides of the ball at the collegiate level and has been compared to Oregon athlete De’Anthony Thomas for his athleticism and playmaking abilities.

With the departure of Oregon safeties Brian Jackson and Avery Patterson, Baker would fill in nicely if indeed Mark Helfrich and Nick Aliotti choose to play him on defense.

According to many of the national scouting services, Baker is an extremely versatile athlete with 4.45 speed and excels at defense, offense and the return game.

At Bellevue HS, Baker accumulated 59 tackles, three interceptions, three forced fumbles and four touchdowns on defense and special teams in leading the Wolverines to their sixth straight state title.

So far, Baker is the 16th recruit to commit to Oregon for the 2014 class.
