Offers

Less than a week into the 2015 recruiting cycle, Oregon extended a slew of offers to preps both near and far in an effort to get out in front amongst the newly-cultivated recruiting landscape.

Local phenom and 2013 Oregon 6A state title-winning running back Cameron Scarlett (3-Star/Portland, OR) received his Ducks nod late last week and is drawing lofty praise from Eugene.

Oregon is a crazy (offer),” said Scarlett.  ”They compete so well nationally every year. (The Oregon coaches) told me I remind them of Josh Huff and I could fill that role for them.”

The 6-foot-1, 210 lb. jack-of-all-trades figures to make an immediate impact as a return man but will no doubt find himself on the edge as a possession receiver with speed to burn (4.5/40).

Scarlett plans to visit Oregon in an official capacity sometime during his senior year along with myriad unofficial treks taken during track season.

The Ducks are back at it again in the southwest, offering one of the top athletes in 2015, slot wide receiver Ryan Newsome (3-Star/Aledo, TX).

Coach Scott Frost told me all Helfrich could say is ‘wow’,” said Newsome.  ”I am a little overwhelmed . . . I am excited about (the Oregon offer).”

In addition, the Ducks’ brass is not at all secretive as to who they see Newsome emulating once at the next level.

“(Oregon) compared me to Bralon (Addison), who I am really close to.  They see me as a faster (version) . . . Oregon is a school that will be up there for me.”

Just an inch shorter (5-foot-9) and sitting at a comparable 171 lbs. with his childhood idol, Newsome has the speed the Ducks covet and may be one of the most agile preps to ever set foot on the Oregon campus.

Visits

The Ducks have made no bones about a heavy interest in the 2015 quarterback class. Over the weekend, the Ducks hosted dual-threat signal-caller Travis Waller (3-Star/Anaheim, CA) and may have already formed a significant recruitment foundation.

The trip was really good,” said Waller.  ”I talked to Scott Frost for a while and he spent most of the day with me showing me the campus.  He told me he thinks I’m a great fit for their program and I could help them continue their success.”

Oregon fans will instantly draw comparisons between Waller’s and Marcus Mariota’s ability to read defenses.  In addition, the 6-foot-4, 185 lb. Waller’s speed mirrors the Heisman hopeful and is an obvious complement to his strong arm in the passing lanes.

New 2024 FishDuck Publishing Schedule….

During the off-season the FishDuck.com publishing schedule will consist of articles on Mondays and Tuesdays. Do keep checking as new articles could be published during the week when a writer has something to say.

In mid-August of 2024, we will go back to the seven-days-a-week of articles during the football season as we did in the football season of 2023.

The Our Beloved Ducks Forum (OBD) is where we we discuss the article above and many more topics, as it is so much easier in a message board format over there.  At the free OBD forum we will be posting Oregon Sports article links, the daily Press Releases from the Athletic Department and the news coming out every day.

Our 33 rules at the free OBD Forum can be summarized to this: 1) be polite and respectful, 2) do not tell anyone what to think, feel or write, and 3) no reference of any kind to politics. Easy-peasy!

OBD Forum members….we got your back.  No Trolls Allowed!
