Recruiting Update: Oregon to Steal South Bend Gold?

Football Recruiting

Oregon has spent much of 2014 searching for a quarterback of the future. With Kyler Murray no longer in play, the Ducks have come full circle and are going for broke in their pursuit of Notre Dame commit Blake Barnett (4-Star/Corona, CA/Rivals100). One of the nation’s top dual threat signal-callers, Barnett made a long-anticipated visit to Eugene this past weekend.

“Oregon was impressive, no doubt,” said Barnett. “The facilities are amazing, I think everyone knows that already. But they are as impressive in person. I really liked the coaching staff and how they handle things. That also made a big impression on me. There is a lot to like about Oregon, it’s a great program.”

A 6-foot-4, 200 lb. run-and-gunner, Barnett is freakishly similar to current QB1 Marcus Mariota. Using almost incomprehensible speed in the read-option, Bartnett makes short work of crashing defenders with one-cut touchdown runs and makes opposing defenses pay with his ability to throw under pressure. An almost guaranteed chance to start if he flips his commitment to Mark Helfrich and Co., Barnett is taking his time to consider his options.

“I want to study broadcasting communications in college. Oregon offers a great degree in that area. But it’s not just that degree, it’s the support they give their players and how they help you succeed. The academic center was amazing and so was the academic support staff. The fact they make that such a priority really stuck out to me.”

Barnett’s timetable will be greatly affected by Oregon’s need to wrap up a quarterback in the near future. Check back with FishDuck, as Barnett’s future could be decided within the next few weeks!

“An almost guaranteed chance to start if he flips his commitment to Mark Helfrich and Co.,”…… HUH? A little premature don’t you think?

    • ptownelite

Not if you have watched his highlight video. Sure he would have competition with Mahalak, but the kid has the skill set to be an immediate game breaker in Oregons offense.

      • Tyler Harnish

Don’t be too quick to crown him over Morgan. Let’s let them compete at a high level. People said the same thing about JRod and where has he gone?

        • hokieduck

Too bad JR had the leg break to deal with. I think otherwise he would have been the clear backup (should have been anyway IMO) and stuck around. He is an uber talented kid.

      • hokieduck

The kid is very talented and has speed but there seems to be something a bit off in his motion. Like he cocks with his arm too far away from his body. Long set up or something. He looks to run before checking down his progressions also. But he is young and I am comparing him to MM whose HS vid still blows me away.

I would just HOPE he Verbals to us soon because it would really help seal the deal with some other studs out there considering Oregon, and if he does verbal here to which I’m sure he’s more than likely coming here, then lets get it done so the staff can start recruiting other High Profile recruit’s. This class is looking like it might just be the BEST CLASS ever. It certainly has that look to it. Cowart I hope this staff goes FULL BORE on this kid to find out if he’s just BLOWING SMOKE or he’s seriously wants to come here and for that too happen he’s going to need to FLY across country and Visit to show how much he really would like to play for the Duck’s. Barnett and Morgan would establish this Program for the next 4 to 5 years no doubt.
