Fighting Ducks Demolish Cal Bears in Nail-Biting Match-Up

Cheridan Hawkins throws a strikeout pitch on Sunday

This weekend, the women of Oregon did what they do best: win. The Bears put up a fight, but ultimately failed to cool the fire that is Oregon softball.

On Friday night, No. 6 Oregon took the field with vigor, absolutely destroying Cal by a score of 15-2 on the road at Levine-Fricke Field in Berkeley, Calif.

Cheridan Hawkins threw 15 for strikeouts and brought the Ducks their 14th straight contest win. Hawkins has solidly secured her place as the all-time school leader in both wins and strikeouts. Saturday night brought bad luck for the Ducks as Cal got the win with a score of 15-4. That match-up was only the third Pac-12 loss for Oregon this season.

The Ducks did not let the small setback phase them when the two teams faced off on Sunday afternoon. After the tight first and second innings, Lauren Lindvall hit a home run and opened up the door for the Ducks to take the win, 5-2.

Cheridan Hawkins and catcher Janelle Lindvall were in sync during Sunday’s game, snatching the series win from Cal. The two have proven themselves as a force to be reckoned with! This win marked the fourth straight series win over Cal.

With this series in the bag, Oregon will have to get only one more win in order to claim the Pac-12 title. It is impossible not to recognize that this Oregon softball team crushes any competition that comes their way, so hold onto your hats as they finish out this record-breaking season next weekend!

Watch the featured video, which is a recap of Sunday’s match-up where Oregon claimed the series.

Oregon will face off against No. 25 Utah on their home turf this Thursday at Jane Sanders Stadium. This series will be the last conference games for the Oregon women this season — with Regionals looming large.

Sarah Greenlaw

My name is Sarah Greenlaw and I am a sophomore majoring in Computer and Information Science at the University of Oregon. I grew up in California, but I come from a long line of Auburn fans that raised me to live and breathe good football! I had a successful twelve-year gymnastic career before retiring to start competitive dance on my high school’s team. Also during high school I was a cheerleader and the captain of the junior varsity tennis team. I chose the University of Oregon because I felt immediately at home on the campus, and we have one amazing athletic program! In my free time I weightlift at our wonderful recreation center and argue with my mother about which mascot is cuter, Puddles or Auburn’s mascot Aubie (Puddles usually wins). Go Ducks!
