Andy Powell — “One of the easiest years I’ve had coaching.”

With a dominant performance at the Indoor NCAAs this past weekend, the Ducks scored 74 points. Only four of those points came from Greg Skipper’s 5th place finish in the weight throw, making 70 points  scored by the distance team. The men’s distance coach, Andy Powell, gave the credit not to himself but to the leadership of the team. He said “They do all the work, and it makes my job really easy.”

The Ducks accomplished a remarkable feat by qualifying with an outstanding number of runners in just one category. A 1st place finish in the distance medley relay, three qualifiers in the mile, five qualifiers in the 3000m, and three qualifiers in the 5000m led Oregon to an outstanding victory, crushing 2nd place Florida who came in to the championship ranked above the Ducks.

Powell said, “They’re good because they work well together, and they’re running for something greater than themselves.” This was evident in how Edward Cheserek opted out of the 5000m, where he has been dominant, to anchor the DMR and run the mile.

It has truly been a great indoor season for the Ducks, with all the men stepping up at the right time. Hopefully they can recreate their success this outdoor season.

New 2024 FishDuck Publishing Schedule….

During the off-season the FishDuck.com publishing schedule will consist of articles on Mondays and Tuesdays. Do keep checking as new articles could be published during the week when a writer has something to say.

In mid-August of 2024, we will go back to the seven-days-a-week of articles during the football season as we did in the football season of 2023.

The Our Beloved Ducks Forum (OBD) is where we we discuss the article above and many more topics, as it is so much easier in a message board format over there.  At the free OBD forum we will be posting Oregon Sports article links, the daily Press Releases from the Athletic Department and the news coming out every day.

Our 33 rules at the free OBD Forum can be summarized to this: 1) be polite and respectful, 2) do not tell anyone what to think, feel or write, and 3) no reference of any kind to politics. Easy-peasy!

OBD Forum members….we got your back.  No Trolls Allowed!
