Lost in the knee-jerk reaction of this weekend’s miscue is the undeniable fact that Oregon’s secondary has turned a corner — no pun intended.
Oregon’s youth in the defensive backfield held Michigan State quarterback, Connor Cook, to a meager 192 yards through the air and picked the senior on a second-quarter drive into Oregon territory. While the goal remains at large, John Neal’s corps is gaining traction and will have earned their wings when all is said and done.
In an effort to strengthen that corps in future years, enter vaunted prep cornerback Nigel Knott (4-Star/Madison, Miss/Rivals100).
Found in the heart of SEC country, Knott made it no secret that he has coveted a Ducks’ offer and went as far as to name Oregon his dream school. Knott’s father, David Knott, played for the aforementioned Neal while at Ole Miss, which instantly created a connection with Eugene that sees Oregon in the driver’s seat if a successful visit unfolds in the coming days.
The 6’0″, 175 lb. ball hawk will be in town this weekend to take in the Ducks’ return to Autzen Stadium. Knott intends to announce his commitment on September 23rd in ceremonial fashion at his high school. Stay tuned!
