Committments

TE Johnny Mundt (3-Star/Modesto, CA).

After taking a one-week writing hiatus for pre-firefighter training, I’m back on the recruiting trail with our beloved Oregon Ducks. During my absence, Head Coach Chip Kelly and company received three commitments from venerable first-tier talent that collectively bears athleticism and considerable upside.

On June 18th, tight end Johnny Mundt (3-Star/Modesto, CA) selected Oregon after building a strong rapport with the Ducks coaching staff. “I just love the way Oregon recruited me and I’m ready to be Duck,” said Mundt. “(My) athletic director, counselors, teachers all spoke with Oregon coaches about me. That tells me they care about my character, and I respect that.” At 6’5, 235 lbs., Mundt is an imposing physical force that, if given an opportunity, could see very early playing time due to a solid work ethic.  (With the presence of current tight ends Colt Lyerla and Evan Baylis, Mundt may move around the depth/position chart before settling. Stay tuned!)

Three days (6/20) after Mundt’s commitment, wide receiver Darren Carrington (3-Star/San Diego, CA) followed suit. “I just couldn’t see it getting any better,” said Carrington. “The academics, the facilities were unreal; the coaches were amazing. Oregon offered everything… I decided not to wait. I’m a Duck and I’m happy to be a Duck.” Carrington, at 6’2, 187 lbs., has terrific hands, makes initial defenders miss, and speeds past opposing secondaries to pay dirt. (Carrington’s athletic potential [plays multiple positions at the prep level] makes him an ideal candidate to excel in Lightning Yellow and Thunder Green. Once his senior season concludes, Carrington’s integration into the Oregon system will be a key off-season storyline.)

Rounding out the Ducks’ new commitment trio (6/22), wide receiver/defensive back Chris Seisay (3-Star/American Canyon, CA) dropped an original pledge to “the smurfs” in favor of Oregon. “Everything about it made it the place for me,” said Seisay, who received an offer after an impressive performance at Oregon’s recent off-season prep camp. There shouldn’t be any apprehension that the 6’2, 175 lb. Seisay will flip commitments a second time during the final phase of his high school career as he indicated “no other visits will be taken.” (A lanky speedster [4.53/40], Seisay joins Carrington as another heavy-hitter heading into 2013. Once a position of question, the Oregon wide receiver corps is beginning to look like an area of strength in the coming years. With an infusion of youth joining soon-to-be veterans, Daryle Hawkins and BJ Kelly, we, the Duck Faithful, can expect to see the Oregon offense open up the passing game to even greater heights.)

The Ducks now hold six solid verbal commitments. The aforementioned preps join tailbacks Thomas Tyner (5-Star/Beaverton, OR/Rivals#1-RatedRB), Dontre Wilson (4-Star/DeSoto, TX), and offensive lineman Evan Voeller (4-Star/West Linn, OR/Rivals250) as members of the 2013 Oregon Recruiting Class.

New 2024 FishDuck Publishing Schedule….

During the off-season the FishDuck.com publishing schedule will consist of articles on Mondays and Tuesdays. Do keep checking as new articles could be published during the week when a writer has something to say.

In mid-August of 2024, we will go back to the seven-days-a-week of articles during the football season as we did in the football season of 2023.

The Our Beloved Ducks Forum (OBD) is where we we discuss the article above and many more topics, as it is so much easier in a message board format over there.  At the free OBD forum we will be posting Oregon Sports article links, the daily Press Releases from the Athletic Department and the news coming out every day.

Our 33 rules at the free OBD Forum can be summarized to this: 1) be polite and respectful, 2) do not tell anyone what to think, feel or write, and 3) no reference of any kind to politics. Easy-peasy!

OBD Forum members….we got your back.  No Trolls Allowed!
