Head coach Dana Altman is at it again. The fourth-year coach has secured heavy interest from one of, if not, the top big man transfer in that of Tarik Black. The 6-foot-9, 262-pound center will transfer from Memphis this spring and will be eligible to play next season due to academic graduation. Black recently visited Altman and the Duck program and is believed to be holding Oregon as his favorite after spending time and getting a feel for what the Ducks are all about. A high-flying dunker who can run the floor and create problems in the low post, Black could join the Ducks’ newest transfer, Mike Moser, in what could shape up to be one the more formidable front courts in the nation. Stay tuned!

Football Recruiting

With summer all but here, Oregon’s focus turns to securing heightened interest from nationally ranked preps. Tight end Trevor Wood (3-Star/Scottsdale, OR) garnered a Ducks offer Monday night and indicated he will be visiting Eugene in the near future.

I’m planning to visit Oregon this summer,” said Wood. “I’ve always loved the program and I like how they use their tight ends.”

A 6-6, 238-pound terror in the flat, Wood comes up big with possession catches and blocks well in the run game. These are traits that embody tight ends coach Tom Osborne’s expected playing style.

Piling up yards in the running game starts with offensive line guru Steve Greatwood’s selection of a new breed of prep. One such behemoth, Layth Friekh (3-Star/Peoria, AZ) was on hand for Oregon’s “Salute to the Troops” and received an offer a few days after departing campus.

I visited for (Oregon’s) spring game and I loved it,” said Friekh. “I like the coaches and the facilities, but I also like the city of Eugene.”

Friekh’s athleticism may be his biggest asset as the 6-6, 251-pound trench dweller runs over defenders on his way to block down field.

“I think I can fit in with the Oregon offense. (The Ducks) love how I can get to the second level and my overall speed,” said Friekh.
