Quarterback and recent Oregon commit Morgan Mahalak (3-Star/Kentfield, CA) is quickly gaining fame around the summer circuit camp water cooler. At the latest edition of Nike’s Elite 11 showcase, Mahalak was named top performer and garnered praise from Super Bowl winning signal-caller Trent Dilfer.
“Morgan had a very good day. Lots of energy in his body. My favorite thing that Morgan did today was, he hasn’t had a whole lot of huge football moments and this was a big football moment for him and he responded very well,” said Dilfer. “His talent is undeniable. He’s got great energy in his feet and great energy in the ball. He doesn’t try to overpower you all the time. I was very impressed with Morgan.”
Top west-coast prep, running back Royce Freeman (4-Star/Imperial, CA/Rivals250) named Oregon to his “top two” heading into the summer months. The 5-foot-11 tailback already commands an Oregon offer and could be the heir apparent to the bruising Byron Marshall. Freeman will visit the Ducks on June 18th for what promises to be the key moment in his recruitment by the Oregon brass.
Incoming freshman Jordan Bell (4-Star/Long Beach, CA/Rivals150) may provide Oregon a means to bring teammate Kameron Chatman (4-Star/Long Beach, CA/Rivals150) to Matthew Knight Arena.
“(Jordan is) a great leader and hard worker. He kind of brought me into the whole high school thing, showed me around and introduced me to his friends,” said Chatman. “He’s like a big brother to me, giving me advice on how to handle everything on and off the court.”
While Chatman no doubt heads Bell’s advice, the 6-foot-7 power forward makes a name for himself on the court with excellent passing and solid play in the low post. A former Jefferson High School (Portland, OR) prep, Chatman only recently transferred to Long Beach Poly and could find a “return to his roots” very appealing when he finishes his senior campaign. Stay tuned!
