Football Recruiting

News

Oregon’s push into the summer camp cycle is gaining momentum as one of the west coast’s top linebackers, Cameron Smith (4-Star/Granite Bay, CA) is slated to visit over Memorial Day weekend.  The 6-foot-2, 240 lb. “Mike” defender is said to be interested in the Ducks after an offer was extended March 3.

Oregon’s no stranger to prying recruits away from USC, who is believed to be Oregon’s biggest competition for Smith’s skill set.  Defensive coordinator Don Pellum’s push for a successful first campaign at his new post is as much about next year’s recruiting class as this coming season’s on-field performance.  A name like Smith would be a huge get for Pellum & Co. and may finally create a stable, yet often heard from pipeline in Southern California.

Oregon may be set for years to come in the backfield, but that hasn’t slowed running backs coach Gary Campbell from looking to gather more riches.  Vaunted speedster Micah Abernathy (3-Star/Norcross, GA) claims an Oregon offer as of last week and will instantly remind We, The Oregon Faithful, of Duck legend LaMicheal James.  However, there’s another side to the coin with Abernathy.  The 6-foot-1, 181 lb. prep is also a shutdown corner who does nothing short of incessantly harass the opposing offense’s number one receiver.

Oregon’s haul from the south has already garnered the nation’s top all-purpose back in Taj Griffin (4-Star/Powder Springs, GA/Rivals100) … what’s next for the Ducks? Stay tuned!

For the Exciting 2024 Football Season….

We will be publishing between four and six articles per week during the football season, as we skip Saturdays with all the distraction of GameDay for us. Check through the week, and in particular check for Analysis articles on most Fridays.

The Our Beloved Ducks Forum (OBD) is where we we discuss the article above and many more topics, as it is so much easier in a message board format over there.  At the free OBD forum we will be posting Oregon Sports article links, the daily Press Releases from the Athletic Department and the news coming out every day.

Our 33 rules at the free OBD Forum can be summarized to this: 1) be polite and respectful, 2) do not tell anyone what to think, feel or write, and 3) no reference of any kind to politics. Easy-peasy!

OBD Forum members….we got your back.  No Trolls Allowed!
