A simple, black ”DF” patch was added to the Oregon Ducks men’s basketball jerseys throughout the Pac-12 tournament, honoring the late Dave Frohnmayer. The patch is a small, solemn mark of recognition, giving thanks to the celebrated former president of the University of Oregon, who sadly lost his battle with prostate cancer on March 9, 2015.

The Ducks will continue to wear the patches in their Friday matchup against Oklahoma State, the Ducks’ first game of their NCAA tournament run.
Frohnmayer oversaw the construction of Matt Knight Arena, one of many athletic program projects during his tenure as UO president.
The former state representative was an avid Oregon basketball fan and strong supporter of Oregon athletics. During Frohnmayer’s 15 years as university president – from 1994 to 2009 – Frohnmayer helped facilitate and promote the expansion of Autzen Stadium and the construction of the Moshofsky Center, Casanova Center, Jacqua Center, and Matt Knight Arena.
Frohnmayer was also a great legal mind, serving three terms as the state’s attorney general between 1981-91, and eventually becoming dean of the UO School of Law in 1992. He was the university’s president emeritus after serving as interim university president in 1994.
Frohnmayer graduated from Harvard magna cum laude, earned a bachelor’s (and subsequently a master’s degree) at Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar, and later earned his law degree from the University of California at Berkeley.

The Ducks are seeded No.8 in the West region and will make their third consecutive NCAA tournament appearance for the first time in the program’s history.
Following Friday’s game, the University of Oregon will remember and honor the legacy of Dave Frohnmayer at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 21st, at Matthew Knight Arena.
