It’s been an exciting week for Oregon Duck fans. Spring practice is now in full force, the guys are looking good, and recruiting is on point. With the latest announcement, via OregonLive.com, (by Andrew Nemec) 4-star class of 2016 defensive back Troy Warner has committed to play for the Ducks, things keep rolling on.
Hailing from San Marcos, Calif., and attending Mission Hills High School, Warner is a top-level prospect that head coach Mark Helfrich and staff have been eyeing for awhile. The Ducks have been focusing heavily on recruiting guys that can contribute to the defense for years to come, and Warner certainly fills that bill.
With a 6-foot frame, and weighing about 185 pounds, Warren boasts an insane amount of athleticism with much room to grow and mature over the next few years. He is touted as one of the top defensive prospects in the country, so a commit like this for Oregon shows that things are headed in the right direction.
With the recent move of Charles Nelson to defensive back, many Ducks fans were worried that the defense might be in trouble this year. Losing Erick Dargan, Ifo Ekpre-Olomu, and Troy Hill left a lot of room, however, for other guys to step up and prove their worth. The secondary will have a lot to prove this season, as making up for the loss of three veterans will be very tough.
Keep an eye out for Warner during his senior season at Mission Hills. He did field offers from the likes of Stanford, Notre Dame, and UCLA, just to name a few. Duck fans are hoping he holds firm on his verbal commit to Oregon.
