Football Recruiting
News/Visits
Now in the heart of the spring season, Oregon’s focus is two-fold, seeing an influx of visitors to Eugene.
On the field, linebacker depth is slowly beginning to mature. One person not slowing down at any pace, however, is position coach Erik Chinander as the second year headman is pushing hard to fill his stable of players for the coming years.
Up-and-coming second level defender Amandre Williams (3-Star/Covington, WA) was one of several preps on hand over the weekend and came away impressed with what he saw.
“When I first got there, I met the coaches. They have been talking to me for a while. I saw the scrimmage, then we toured the facilities and had lunch,” said Williams. “The scrimmage was great, their warm-up is very unique. What really stood out was that the coaches were personable. They care about their players off the field and they aren’t just making great football players; they want to produce great young men too.”
Already standing a stout 6-foot-3, 235 lbs., Williams oddly enough takes snaps at his positional opposite, quarterback. Williams will no doubt settle on defense upon reaching the collegiate level, but his IQ and cerebral approach to the game is undeniable in light of his success at signal-caller.
“… An offer from Oregon will put them towards the top. It’s a great program always competing for a national championship and they have great facilities. What’s not to like about Oregon?”

Fellow northern product Ezra Cleveland (3-Star/Spanaway, WA) was equally struck by the way Oregon conducts its business.
“The players were all so polite. Out of all my visits, nobody had a group of players that were as polite as the Oregon team,” said Cleveland. “That was really cool and really stood out to me. I enjoyed my Oregon visit more because everyone was so polite and it was more 1-on-1.”
At 6-foot-6, 275 lbs., Cleveland is already a force in the trenches and could be a sleeper-turned-star once under the tutelage of defensive line coach Ron Aiken, stay tuned!
