Recruiting Update: Mid-Summer Haze

Not unlike the smoky horizon of the west coast, the ’15-’16 recruiting cycle has settled into a mid-summer haze, seeing several key story lines move into a holding pattern.

While much has been made of Bryce Youngquist’s (4-Star/Rancho Cucamonga, Calif./Rivals250) recruitment rapport with Eugene, the vaunted linebacker has finally given himself a deadline to announce his commitment. This coming Friday will all but assuredly reveal Youngquist’s eventual destination and could firmly place coach Erik Chinander into the conversation of the next prime-time recruiter in the Pac-12.

Youngquist is expected to hold some type of announcement event around 4 p.m. on July 31st; stay tuned!

It’s not often that Oregon finds its skill players locally — much less in its backyard. Local Sheldon High School quarterback Justin Herbert (NR/Eugene, Ore.) has moved from potential long shot to a serious contender to land an offer from Offensive Coordinator Scott Frost.

I went over there a few weeks ago and I was throwing in front of coach [Mark] Helfrich and [Scott] Frost,” said Herbert. “They said they were very impressed and they really liked me. I know they said they need to see my first couple of games and they can talk to me more about it.”

While locality would seem to only aid Herbert’s quest to land an Oregon nod, it would also expedite the process of evaluation on the part of the Oregon brass who will be searching for clarity past the impending quarterback battle that will play itself out in fall camp.

For the Exciting 2024 Football Season….

We will be publishing between four and six articles per week during the football season, as we skip Saturdays with all the distraction of GameDay for us. Check through the week, and in particular check for Analysis articles on most Fridays.

The Our Beloved Ducks Forum (OBD) is where we we discuss the article above and many more topics, as it is so much easier in a message board format over there.  At the free OBD forum we will be posting Oregon Sports article links, the daily Press Releases from the Athletic Department and the news coming out every day.

Our 33 rules at the free OBD Forum can be summarized to this: 1) be polite and respectful, 2) do not tell anyone what to think, feel or write, and 3) no reference of any kind to politics. Easy-peasy!

OBD Forum members….we got your back.  No Trolls Allowed!
