Rule No. 6a: Denigrating Other OBD Members Examples

No. 6: No denigration, disparagement or even minor belittling of another poster or writer on the site; there is no need for it. State your case and let the information or the strength of your argument win the day—but trying to denigrate a fellow Duck fan for a difference of opinion is not allowed.

No. 6a) We look at the tone of the post; does it have an aggressive tone or a bit of a bite to it? (Even if tiny) If so, we delete it. Throwing shade at another member comes in many subtle forms such as, “if you understood….or if you thought this through…,” etc. and while these are benign, they are derisive, and nobody wants to be on the receiving end of it. All posts can be written without an aggressive or dismissive tone.

No. 6b) Are you being “polite and respectful” in your post? The preponderance of posts deleted fail this simple test, as OBD is the civil site, the forum with decorum. If you cannot be nice to your fellow OBD members, then this is not the place for you.

“I always find it amusing how people are so willing to spend Phil Knights money so they can sit in their living room and cheer for the team that won a NC. Seems like a good use of his money to me…I’m sure he’s on board too.”

Above is group shade, although it was directed at one member and is also snarky and sarcastic.

“…to dictate that a SEC 2 star across the board is better than a west 4 star is just silly.”

Above is mild, but a violation; nobody wants to be told their view is silly. (Even if it is—we do not allow it)

Below are attacks when they could have just disagreed, and stated their opinion as we do on OBD.

“Ducks knock off ucla/usc.  Majority of uo “fans” could care less.  I doubt 10% of uo football followers could even name Altman as uo bb coach.   The great lanning hires a virtual anonymous non-descript trivial asst coach and the Oregon football boards light up for a week.”

Oh my god.  Go watch the tape, check the injury report, and then tell me these athletes lack heart.

Don’t question the heart of these athletes from the safety of your couch — come on!

______  just seems really passive aggressive and dumb so am giving benefit of the doubt.
