Commits/Offers
While much of this week’s attention focuses on Oregon’s latest grab at receiver Devon Allen (4-Star/Phoenix, AZ/Rivals250), and quarterback Juwaan Williams (3-Star/Tucker, GA), little known hybrid Elijah George (2-Star/Las Vegas, NV) committed to the Ducks after taking an official visit last weekend (Read a detailed analysis of Allen here). “Coach (Steve) Greatwood said he loves my potential and my size,” said George. “He thinks I have one of the highest ceilings to develop of anyone.” While only 6’5″, 260 lbs., George had no qualms leading his prep squad in blocking, a team that averaged 300+ yards/per game on the ground.
But lets not forget Williams. Tipping the measurements at 6’0, 181 lbs., Williams is a deceptively fast runner who has an arm to boot. “They see me as not just a great player on field, but as a wonderful person off the field and a terrific student in the classroom,” said Williams. “I would say that was the deciding factor in my whole decision.”
Also in Eugene over the two-day respite, quarterback/athlete Damion Hobbs (3-Star/Cedar Hill, TX), linebacker Torrodney Prevot (4-Star/Houston, TX/Rivals250), and running back Trevorris Johnson (3-Star/Houston, TX). All three Texas-based preps are committed elsewhere but if the weekend’s events are an indication, thoughts may swing in Oregon’s favor. “The Oregon trip was real nice,” said the 6’3″, 220 lb. Hobbs. “I really liked the coaching staff and the business school.” His sentiments were echoed by Johnson, a 5’11, 210 lb. bruiser, who flashed a normally reserved smile. “I liked it a lot and I liked the facilities and the coaches… I’m definitely considering (Oregon).” Hobbs received a scholarship offer while on campus and has the potential to get his Quack on following a conversation with his family. “… They want me to play quarterback; I’m going to talk it over with my mom this week.”
Visits
With the aforementioned Allen, Williams, and George commitments, Oregon’s total climbs to 16 with nine frames left until signing day. A last minute visitor sometime during this week, 6’2″, 210 lb. linebacker Keishawn Bierria (3-Star/Harbor City, CA) will journey north to take a look at what mid-defender corps headman Don Pellum and Oregon have to offer. Bierria has made no secret about his desire to garner a Ducks offer and could commit before the week is out, stay tuned!
