Basketball Recruiting
Commitments
Behind the hysteria that came about over the last week, Head Coach Dana Altman secured the commitment of forward/guard Jalil Abdul-Bassit (NR/Coeur d’Alene, ID). Originally from Alaska, Abdul-Bassit is in the midst of his second year in the college ranks at the JC level. A 6’4″, 195 lb. tweener, Abdul-Bassit has ability to get to the basket and yet make defenses pay from behind the arc. “Oregon says they like how I am a slasher but I am also a really good shooter,” said Abdul-Bassit. “They lose (E.J.) Singler and (Carlos) Emory next year and I just feel like I can fit in and replace what they do on the wing and work with Dominic Artis and Damyean Dotson…” Altman’s plucking of diamonds in the rough is becoming a noticed skill as former transfers Olu Ashaolu, Devoe Joseph, and current big man Waverly Austin have only added to our up and coming program.
News
Superfreak Aaron Gordon (5-Star/San Jose, CA/Rivals150) re-added Oregon to his final program list and will decide on a destination this coming spring. “I am now reconsidering Oregon,” said Gordon. “(Oregon’s) recent success and how good their freshman class is …played a factor for me.” Gordon’s AAU teammate and current Oregon starter, Artis, continues to be a factor in the 6’8″, 205 lb. small forward’s recruitment. Artis played host during Gordon’s visit to Eugene last September and appears to keep a line open with his friend, providing Altman & Co. and an inside track to land the West Coast’s top player, stay tuned!
