Football Recruiting
Visits/Offers
A somewhat quieter front on the recruiting trail, Oregon’s D-Line brass made waves offering in-state talent Henry Mondeaux (3-Star/Portland, OR) and southwestern-based Jalen Jelks (3-Star/Phoenix, AZ). “I was down in Eugene Saturday and I spent I think around 10 or 11 hours around the school and football team,” said the 6’5″, 245 lb. Mondeaux. “I watched practice and after it was over Mark Helfrich introduced me to the team and they all welcomed me.” Mondeaux’s contemporary, Jelks — a lean 6’7”, 250 lbs. — received his Oregon nod via his family. “They contacted my parents and told them I had an offer which is how I found out. I’m pretty excited about it,” said Jelks. “I’m going to schedule a trip up there soon and check them out.” Both preps are very physical at multiple positions and could make noise early in their collegiate careers. Look for Mondeaux to give an Oregon pledge as the summer winds down and for Jelks to give serious thought to come to Eugene permanently following what will be a future red-carpet visit.
With so much focus on returning redshirt sophomore Marcus Mariota, quarterback prospect Morgan Mahalak (3-Star/Kentfield, CA) quietly made his way up to Oregon. “I had a blast up there in Eugene,” said Mahalak. “…I was fortunate to have the experience and see them practice which was impressive. (Oregon is) so efficient and fast-paced.” The 6’3”, 190 lb. dual threat passer has pinpoint accuracy and makes the most of the read option when given the opportunity. “I think an offer could happen, they seem interested and I’m definitely interested in Oregon.” Stay tuned!
Mahalak wasn’t the only out-of-state prep to come away from Eugene in awe. Tight end Ian Bunting (3-Star/Hinsdale, IL), a lanky 6’7, 215 lbs., visited campus and got an insider’s film session with tight ends coach Tom Osborne. “…He was showing me how they use their tight ends in the passing game a lot and how it’s a really versatile position for (Oregon),” said Bunting. Beyond the film room, Bunting took in the atmosphere in and around town. “It’s a really pretty place, everything’s green, everyone’s outside and having a good time and enjoying the outdoors…,” said Bunting. “…Definitely a place where I felt comfortable. My mom loved it too.”
Basketball Recruiting
Offers
Oregon’s success in the NCAA tournament is attracting attention far and wide. Top JUCO forward Jamal Jones (3-Star/Searcy, AR), a 6’8″ 185 lb. guard/forward hybrid, is seriously considering the Ducks after being offered by head coach Dana Altman. “(Oregon) played well in the tournament and they keep telling me they think I am the final piece to their team and I could come right in…,” said Jones. “They like my size and length at small forward and playing out on the wing… I think I can make an impact there.” A visit is likely in the works and could spell big dividends for Oregon as Altman’s knack for locking down transfers/junior college players is becoming the stuff of legends.
