We knew going into this season that with a new weapon in De’Anthony Thomas, and a new playbook that went from 75 plays to 200 plays—that we would see new strategies to match. What we did not expect was to see Chip changing up some of basic strategies and philosophies in attacking a defense. We have witnessed the transition of designed Outside Zone Reads going inside, and of Inside Zone Read plays going outside.
We have noted the new Inside Zone Read/Power Play hybrid play, and now we see Chip altering his “One Quarterback” philosophy? The Oregon Spread Offense is becoming more than just entertainment; it is an ongoing evolution of a newer Head Coach and how he deals with the many challenges thrown at him by the clever Defensive Coordinators of this conference. We have a front row seat and it’s great fun to study…even through the “off” games that come along through a long football season!
