Football Recruiting
Visits
Oregon’s fevered pitch along the recruiting trail hit a new high last Saturday as offensive line coach Steve Greatwood welcomed Shane Lemieux (3-Star/Yakima, WA) to Eugene.
“Everything about the visit was great, really great,” said Lemieux. ”My parents and I came down late Thursday night and then went to see the entire program and campus Friday and Saturday.”
A rare blend of undeniable brawn and sound mechanics, Lemieux uses his 6-foot-6, 294 lb. frame to open lanes in the running game and push out to the second level to extend plays.
“The campus and facilities were amazing. It was a really good visit with all (the coaches). Then on top of that, Marcus Mariota and Jake Fisher both even came up to me and hung out for a while. There wasn’t one player who was there that didn’t come up to me and my parents and say hello. It was really nice.”
And how does Lemieux fit into the Duck’s plan for the future?
“I had a long talk with (Greatwood) and he sat me down and said I have the potential to come into Oregon and start right away. I’ll be honest, after today’s visit, Oregon is on top for me.”
At this juncture, Lemieux is almost a lock to end up in Lightning Yellow and Thunder Green. Greatwood and Co. may have another Hroniss Grasu-like lineman on their hands in terms of making a very early impact.

On offense, Oregon continues to target preps who may find collegiate paydirt after a position change. Currently taking snaps at quarterback, left-handed hurler Stephen Johnson III (3-Star/San Leandro, CA) may end up on the edge as a deep threat if the Ducks come calling.
“Oregon said they will offer . . . They said they really like me at wide receiver,” said Johnson. “That’s a big school and I would definitely go to Oregon. I love the fast-paced offense and the coaching staff.”
A shifty 5-foot-11, 180 lbs., Johnson is by no means a slouch at signal caller, utilizing an accurate touch to find his receivers. Where he may be most dangerous, however, is in the open field on designed routes and returns; skills Oregon places at the top of a speed-laden wish list. Look for communication to continue between Johnson and wide receivers coach Matt Lubick, as an offer is likely to come in the near future. Once that occurs, a commitment may soon follow, stay tuned!
