Mere moments after newly-minted Heisman winner Marcus Mariota brought tears to the country’s eyes, another signal caller was the subject of breaking news.

Long time Texas Tech commit Jarrett Stidham (4-Star/Stephenville, TX/Rivals100) quietly announced that he would open his recruitment after months of silence surrounded one of the nation’s top dual-threat passers.

What does it mean for Oregon? The Ducks have long been connected with Stidham and are rumored to be the top program in the mind of the 6-foot-2, 183 lb. quarterback. One question remains — distance. If this hurdle can be cleared, expect Stidham to be a serious contender as OC Scott Frost’s newest project.

While Oregon begins the immense process of preparing for the first leg of the College Football Playoff, detailed attention will also be placed on the all-important “dead space” recruiting period.

Class of 2015 junior college cornerback Maurice Chandler (3-Star/Lawton, OK) was on campus over the weekend and now considers Oregon his top school.

I loved it,” said Chandler. “The coaches to the facilities, to the environment… it was great.”

A 6’1, 190 lb. second level defender, Lawton would instantly fill a void once he becomes eligible.

“Oregon’s coaches said they wish I was getting out this year because they need me now,” said Chandler. “They said I would be a great pickup for their class.”

Across the Santiam Pass, the Ducks are hot in pursuit of who could be the state’s next nationally recognized prep in tabbed athlete Cameron McCormick (NR/Bend, OR/Class ’16).

I’d say (Oregon seems) to be pretty interested,” said McCormick. “They are mostly talking to my high school coach right now because he knows the staff there really well… I also attended a spring camp out there and got a chance to work out in front of the coaches last year. During that time we got to talk some.”

While only finishing up his junior season this past fall, McCormick is finding the spotlight by combining stout size (6-foot-5, 225 lbs.) with freakish athleticism where he can quickly take over a game on both sides of the ball.

For the Exciting 2024 Football Season….

We will be publishing between four and six articles per week during the football season, as we skip Saturdays with all the distraction of GameDay for us. Check through the week, and in particular check for Analysis articles on most Fridays.

The Our Beloved Ducks Forum (OBD) is where we we discuss the article above and many more topics, as it is so much easier in a message board format over there.  At the free OBD forum we will be posting Oregon Sports article links, the daily Press Releases from the Athletic Department and the news coming out every day.

Our 33 rules at the free OBD Forum can be summarized to this: 1) be polite and respectful, 2) do not tell anyone what to think, feel or write, and 3) no reference of any kind to politics. Easy-peasy!

OBD Forum members….we got your back.  No Trolls Allowed!
