I don’t think this is what the NCAA had in mind when it moved to the playoff format…
The Rose Bowl has yet to sell out. Yes, you heard that right. College football’s most historic bowl, the Granddaddy of Them All still has a ton of available tickets, with prices as low as $104 (which is dirt cheap). On the flip side, the cheapest Sugar Bowl ticket costs $200. John Talty of al.com reported that the average cost of a Sugar Bowl ticket was $470, while a seat at the Rose Bowl was going for $322 on average.
The Rose Bowl has sold out all but once the 20 years. Oregon-FSU tickets are readily available. http://t.co/Hv1igWLaeM

The tickets that have gone unsold are generally those allotted for the Florida State fan base. Why aren’t Florida State fans willing to make the trek to Pasadena to watch their team take on Oregon in one of the most intriguing matchups in Rose Bowl history? There are a couple different factors at hand. Bud Elliot of tomahawknation.com reported that the cost of flights are nearly five times as expensive as the cost of the tickets themselves. Florida State has actually received more requests for the National Championship game than for the Rose Bowl. Flights to Dallas near the date of the title game are much cheaper than flights to LAX around New Year’s Day.
Sorry #FSU, plane tickets to the Rose Bowl are absurdly expensive http://t.co/ztPei57UYK — Jacksonville (@SunTimesJAX) December 24, 2014
The reality is that most fans of teams in the College Football Playoff can only afford to make the trip for one of the playoff games, and a lot of people who would have generally gone to the Rose Bowl are now holding out for the National Championship.
