Nope, not clickbait. Our Oregon Ducks football program has a legitimate shot at becoming the next big school for wide receivers to flock to. Mr. FishDuck paused from his fun studying at best odds at GGBet to share his excitement with me on our upcoming 2025 WR recruiting class.
Now, we know about Tez Johnson and Traeshon Holden, and most of us know about Texas A&M transfer Evan Stewart. A handful of faces could emerge into that next rotation spot, but needless to say: there’s a lot to love about this group of receivers today. Dillon Gabriel has been set up for some major success in 2024, and it seems like Dan Lanning will pick up right where he left off with Bo Nix.
However, that’s not what got us thinking about Oregon owning the coveted ‘Wide Receiver U’ moniker in the coming seasons. It’s been the superstar recruiting job by Dan Lanning that has really put this team over the top. Dakorien Moore is one of the latest (not to mention, Dorian Brew lining up against him??), and Dallas Wilson will probably be joining him pretty quickly in the starting lineup. The Oregon community couldn’t be more excited; these are the most talented wideouts this school has ever seen.
To be fair to the current WRU leaders in Ohio State and LSU, it’s hard to argue anyone could dethrone them within just a few seasons. Justin Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase were lights out with Joe Burrow and have been dominating at the next level, not to mention Chris Olave, Garrett Wilson, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba from Ohio State have all gone on to have a huge draft price at the next level.
That’s just it though. If Oregon can start to produce first-round grade receivers, that’s what’ll push them into this conversation. Nix’s relationship with Tez Johnson and Troy Franklin needs to be the blueprint of what we get out of Gabriel this year. He should have plenty of opportunities to help this roster shine, as well as mentor Dante Moore for a dominant season next year with new recruits. In 2025 and beyond, I expect Oregon to become a wide receiver powerhouse.
But enough from me, Oregon fans. Let’s get a discussion going on the FishDuck Forum with decorum. How successful do you expect Gabriel to be with this group of receivers? Who should we expect to step up this year, and what’s it going to take for Oregon to become the next ‘Wide Receiver U’ of college football?
Go Ducks!

Additionally, I would like to briefly acknowledge Khyree Jackson. What a fantastic person and athlete that was clearly what being an Oregon Duck was all about. Best wishes to his family and all those affected in the Oregon community.

Alex Heining is an Oregon alumni from the graduate class of 2021. After studying sports business and media studies, he has moved into the field of digital marketing as a copywriter and content manager in the Los Angeles area. Still, he loves his Ducks and goes to local high school games all over the Los Angeles and Orange County area to check out new recruits of the future (and a SoFi game or two with the pros). On any given Saturday, expect to find him doing martial arts, playing the guitar, or screaming at the tv over a missed holding penalty.
