Our Oregon football season concluded semi-unceremoniously, as the Buckeyes ended the Ducks’ 13-0 season in the Rose Bowl. After a blowout loss that does not reflect what Oregon was able to accomplish in 2024, we look back at the season and take some time to acknowledge what the Ducks achieved in its first year as a part of the B1G.
Beating Each of the Top Programs in the Conference
Michigan, Ohio State, and Penn State all fell to the Ducks in 2024. In their first year as a part of the conference, they beat last year’s champions, this year’s favorites to win it all, and a steady second-fiddle in the College Football Playoff that still has natty hopes.
That’s a MASSIVE season for Dan Lanning and co. to carry into 2025. Recruiting should only look up from here, and expect the transfer portal to stay active. Losing quarterbacks may be difficult, but the fact of the matter is: This wasn’t a one-time thing. The Ducks have a favorable schedule next season, and should be able to replicate the success they had in 2024. If this wasn’t the year, Lanning will have the team ready to go all the way next year and beyond.
Final Thoughts on the Oregon Season
Overall, I loved what I saw out of Lanning’s Ducks. He has successfully motivated, elevated, and extracted the best out of this team, and while the season didn’t end in Atlanta like some of us expected, I for one am proud of how he, Tosh Lupoi, and Will Stein led these Ducks to a FANTASTIC first season in the B1G.
The excitement for next season is already building. Oregon’s offense could reach even greater heights with Dante Moore’s continued development, or perhaps the addition of a transfer quarterback like Quinn Ewers. Even after losing in the Rose Bowl, Oregon has laid the foundation for sustained success in the B1G, and the future looks brighter than ever for this program. Here’s to hoping 2025 brings even more unforgettable moments for Oregon football, and the first championship in team history.
What do you think of the 2024-2025 season in review? What does Oregon’s future without Tez Johnson, Dillon Gabriel, and Jeffrey Bassa look like? Let us know in the FishDuck Forum with decorum.
Go Ducks!

After studying sports business and media studies, he has moved into the field of digital marketing as a copywriter and content manager in the Los Angeles area. Still, he loves his Ducks and goes to local high school games all over the Los Angeles and Orange County area to check out new recruits of the future (and a SoFi game or two with the pros). On any given Saturday, expect to find him doing martial arts, playing the guitar, or screaming at the tv over a missed holding penalty.
