In February of 2024, the B1G Ten and the SEC formed an Advisory Committee to ‘address issues in college athletics.’ A committee made up of the SEC and B1G university presidents, chancellors, commissioners Petitti and Sankey, and the SEC and B1G athletic directors. Many of the Advisory Committee’s thoughts on the format of the 2026-27, and college football playoffs thereafter have (purposely ) leaked out.
What would these changes look like using the B1G and SEC 2024 football standings through Game 11 of the 2024 season to set the Champions Weekend field, and using The Sporting News Composite 2025 Preseason College Football Top 25 to project a 2026 14-team playoff field? Mr. FishDuck took a moment away from his wanted win no deposit promo code to look at what the future may hold for Our Beloved Ducks, and college football.
Week 12 of the Regular Season would be Champions Week
(Replacing a 13th game, the Conference Championship)
B1G 2024 Champions Week – The Four Winning Teams become the B1G Playoff Teams.
No. 8. 4-4 Minnesota at No. 1. 8-0 OREGON
No. 7. 4-4 Michigan at No. 2. 7-1 Indiana
No. 6. 5-3 Iowa at No. 3. 7-1 Penn State
No. 4. 5-3 Illinois at No. 5. 6-2 Ohio State

SEC 2024 Champions Week – The Four Winning Teams are the SEC Playoff Teams
No. 8. 4-3 South Carolina at No. 1. 6-1 Texas
No. 7. 4-3 LSU at No. 2. 5-2 Georgia
No. 6. 4-3 Alabama at No. 3. 5-2 Tennessee
No. 5. 4-3 Mississippi at No. 4. 4-3 Missouri.
Benefits: $$$ , and the season concludes a week earlier leading to an earlier playoff start and finish; no 13th game for any team before the playoff; with mega-conferences only two of the eight games would be a rematch game.
Problems: What to do with Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, and South Carolina season ending rivalry games versus ACC opponents? Do Ohio State and Michigan want a game after The Game?
The 2026-27, 4-4-2-2-1-1 14-Team Playoff Field with Teams Seeded as Ranked
(If a team is seeded other than as ranked, the ranking is shown (X.)
No. 1. Texas – 1st Round Bye
No. 2. Ohio State – 1st Round Bye
No. 14. NR – Boise State – G5 at No. 3. Penn State
No. 10. Miami (11) at No. 7. Clemson
No. 13. BYU (16) at. No. 4. Georgia
No. 12. Illinois (14) at No. 5. Notre Dame
No. 11. ASU (13) at No. 6. OREGON
No. 9. Alabama at No. 8. LSU

Questions: As is the case in the NFL:
(i) Will teams be reseeded after each round?
(ii) How many games would be played at a higher-seeded team’s home field?
(iii) Would rematch games from the regular season be avoided? Such as No. 9. Bama vs. No. 7. Clemson instead of vs. No. 8. LSU, and No. 10. Miami vs. No. 8 LSU instead of vs. No. 7 Clemson?
Observations:
‘Plus 1 Team’ Notre Dame makes the field at its ranked No. 5 spot, as No. 16 BYU and NR Boise State are in as the 2nd guaranteed B12 team, and as the highest ranked G5 team. Thus, 17th ranked SMU would not have made the field, and 18th ranked K State would not have made the field. No. 10 ranked Tennessee would have made the field, but would be knocked out as the fifth SEC participant.
It’s only one snapshot using The Sporting News Composite Preseason Poll, but in the above situation it is the SEC, and not the ACC, B12, or G5 that, with the Vols being benched, is out millions of dollars.
One reason to love this format? The whining from Lane (Lame) Kiffin (Kitten) would be, Oh-So-Sweet.
B1G and SEC playoff changes are coming, but likely not before 2026-27. In 2025-26, the existing format would see No. 9 seed LSU visiting No. 8 OREGON in a first round game. Oregon wins (!!!) and No. 6 ranked OBD’s next game would be versus No. 1 Texas. I’ve seen this movie before .
