Oregon Softball mesmerized crowds with a stunning victory at the NCAA Eugene Regionals. The Ducks hosted Baylor, Fordham, and Long Beach State during the course of the weekend. Oregon faced off against Fordham and Baylor to come out on top of their postseason debut.
The No. 5 Ducks breezed by Fordham on Friday night to take the win, 8-0, in only five innings. Baylor took to the field on Saturday afternoon with hopes that the Ducks would stumble, but only came up disappointed. Oregon won, 6-0, and Cheridan Hawkins dazzled the whole game. The crowd was electric as Hawkins threw pitch after pitch to shut out most everyone who faced her. Cheers intensified with every run the Oregon women gained and the crowd absolutely exploded with energy as the final Baylor batter was struck out.
With the win on Saturday, Oregon moved on to the Regional Finals to take on Baylor once again. Baylor scored one run, but ultimately failed to take the crown from the incredible women of Oregon Softball. The Ducks once again dominated the field with a win, 8-1, solidifying their place in the NCAA Super Regionals next weekend against UCLA. Alyssa Gillespie and Cheridan Hawkins were regional co-MVPs for their excellent work throughout the weekend.
Oregon was cool, calm, and collected all weekend and played with the ease of champions. It was obvious that the team’s chemistry and months of hard work have greatly prepared each team member to take the field with the confidence required to take the Regionals with ease. Jane Sanders Stadium will host the NCAA Super Regionals this weekend, where the Ducks will play the Bruins Saturday at 6:30pm and Sunday at 4pm. The UCLA batters do not stand a chance against Hawkins incredible pitching and the dynamite Ducks!
