Oregon Football: Will USC Keep It Close?

Alex Heining Editorials

Our Oregon football program is closing out the regular season with a pair of tough, familiar matchups: the Huskies and the Trojans. Fortunately, winning this weekend would almost guarantee a College Football Playoff run for the Ducks, and if Oregon finds a way to get to 11-1, they could squeeze into the B1G Championship for the second season in a row. Even Mr. FishDuck took a break from his studying reviews of casino sites, to share his excitement about how this season could close out.

Head coach Dan Lanning has this squad coming off a major win at home over the Minnesota Golden Gophers, a game in which Oregon’s rushing attack absolutely shredded Minnesota’s defense. Similar to playing the Hawkeyes a week prior, most fans viewed the Ducks as incapable of beating them in “B1G football” fashion, which they have time and time again proved to be false. Oregon has dismantled teams on the ground when lacking weather conducive to a successful passing game and sustaining numerous injuries to their best receivers.

Personally, I expect Oregon’s most successful position group of the season to continue to dominate this weekend and cover the spread. This offense should put up fireworks against a weak Trojan run defense, as Noah Whittington, Jordon Davison, and Dierre Hill Jr. find creative ways to get loose in Will Stein’s offense.

Today, the Ducks sit as 10.5-point favorites at home, a line that’s jumped a few points from the original 7.5-point spread that the Ducks opened as. My question to you is: Will USC keep it that close? Is there a scenario where Oregon doesn’t only handle business, but they do so decidedly in a 10+ point victory? Will the run game get going like it did against Minnesota, and offer the Ducks complete control of this football game? Let us know your thoughts in the FishDuck Forum with decorum.

Go Ducks!

For the 2025 Football Season….

We will be publishing between three and four articles per week during the football season, as we skip Saturdays with all the distraction of GameDay for us. Check through the week, and in particular check for Analysis articles on most Fridays.

The Our Beloved Ducks Forum (OBD) is where we we discuss the article above and many more topics, as it is so much easier in a message board format over there.  At the free OBD forum we will be posting Oregon Sports article links, the daily Press Releases from the Athletic Department and the news coming out every day.

Our 33 rules at the free OBD Forum can be summarized to this: 1) be polite and respectful, 2) do not tell anyone what to think, feel or write, and 3) no reference of any kind to politics. Easy-peasy!

OBD Forum members….we got your back.  No Trolls Allowed!
